Update: Library Has 10 Copies of "Water for Elephants"

The Otis and I are celebrating our 7th anniversary (and my 28th birthday) with our 2nd annual Karaoke Idol competition. Last year's was a blast. And I was truly honored that I wasn't one of the Bottom Three. (Though I thought I was deserving). My song is "Fancy." I've Athol-fied the lyrics, which should help me get in the judges good graces. Because I can tell you right now that my vocal stylings definitely won't help me win that shiny 1st place trophy. (Yes, folks, we are doing trophies this year). And I'm thinking of dressing the part. Maybe some Wranglers and a Stetson? -- Mommy Dearest/BrodH20.

Mommy Dearest's Quandry: We have an awesome panel of judges: The Paula-licious Leenda the Ball, Megs Cowell and newbie Orange TV. Based on last year's judging, I haven't decided whether it's better to perform early when the judges are still stone-cold sober, or if it's better to wait until they've got that warm and fuzzy feeling in their veins.

No, we’re not related

But instead of one of my usual, meandering deals about life on the road in the NBA, I'm going to yap basketball for the umpteenth day in a row (sooner or later we're going to stray off topic, for real).

So, I had a funny phone exchange after practice yesterday.

"You and Dale Davis must be cousins after what you wrote [Monday]," the cat on the other end of the phone said to me, he was joking, of course.

I had to laugh myself.

No, we're not related. But Dale is one of my favorite dudes out there, active or not. And more importantly, he represents the type of player this Hawks team so desperately needs to complete what started over the weekend with the Mike Bibby trade.

After watching these guys practice for the first time it became painfully obvious to me that Josh Smith, Al Horford, Zaza Pachulia and Solomon Jones comprise the entire frontcourt rotation the Hawks will use for the final 33 games of this season - starting with tonight's game against the Lakers - and possibly beyond.

Control the language, control the debate: Israel may hold its own militarily but Avi Davis says it's the Palestinians who are winning the worldwide war of words

NJ Senate approves abolishing death penalty

Four teenagers are accused in a robbery and assault of students near the Rowan University campus in Glassboro.

The case has some similarities to one in October, when Rowan sophomore Donald "Donnie" Farrell of Boonton was killed in a robbery attempt. But Bernie Weisenfeld, a spokesman for the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office, said investigators have determined that the cases are not connected.

Developer Says City Keeping Him From Renovating Crime-Ridden Area

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A developer says he has big plans to renovate several rundown apartment complexes in an Orlando neighborhood that has been riddled with crime. But he says the city is standing in the way.

Developer Jimmy Yuken wants to renovate the Peppertree apartments on Mercy Drive, one by one. The problem is they all have code violations and the city says the most dangerous violations, including the unsafe stairs leading to the second floor units, have to be fixed in less than 60 days whether someone is living in the buildings or not.

"We put in all the central air conditioning ducts," Yuken said during a walk-through of one of the units.

Jimmy Yuken is in a hurry to gut the Peppertree apartment complex, but says he can't do it on the city's deadline.
