Belittling allergies and asthma (and the parents who deal with them) seems to be one of the last prejudices that is allowable in our society. The image of the delicate, nerdy child and overprotective mother still saturates the popular culture. Thanks for making my life just that much harder with this irresponsible piece. .
Preparing for Winter Emergencies: Connecticut Home Standby Generator ...
BETHLEHEM, Conn., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Old Man Winter produced several surprises for Connecticut early this season, and more residents are turning to home standby generators to combat the resulting power outages. PowerHouse Electrical Services, Inc., with offices in Bethlehem and Seymour, has been meeting the general electrical service and repair needs of Western Connecticut since 1998. They quickly branched out into home standby generators after listening to their clients. "We got hooked on generators almost ten years ago," says Kurt St. John, PowerHouse General Manager. "We witnessed a need for the kind of safety and security they offer among our customers, and now we are installing 30 to 40 units a year. Believe it or not, we expect that number to increase 25% in 2008." According to CNN.com, U.S.
How a 5-foot waterboy at Texas became a football icon
The powder blue '95 Oldsmobile heads down Guadalupe Street, slightly above the speed limit, air conditioner full blast. The driver, 78-year-old William E. " Rooster " Andrews , has been animatedly telling stories for nearly four hours, first in his Rooster Andrews Sporting Goods office, then during lunch at Trudy's Café. But now, during a late-afternoon errand, his distinct and, yes, rooster -like, scratchy voice takes on a reflective tone. .

Of the 99 estuaries that had adequate data for evaluation, 64 estuaries have moderate to high level nutrient related impacts. "The team of scientists that worked on this assessment concluded that most of the problems in the estuaries are related to human activities," said lead report author Suzanne Bricker, Ph.D., of NOAA's Center for Coastal Monitoring and Assessment. "These impacts are occurring in a watershed that currently supports 53 percent of the nation's population, and excluding Alaska accounts for only 17 percent of the nation's land mass. The scientists' assessment is that the ecological health of our coastal waters is seriously threatened by nutrient pollution. We need to comprehensively address the influx of excess nutrients from upland watersheds to protect our nation’s estuaries." While moderate-to-high-level nutrient-related impacts were reported in systems from all coasts, the Mid-Atlantic region, stretching south from Cape Cod to the Chesapeake Bay, is the most impaired.
Where do women voters stand
I had a little trouble voting the other day. In my excitement I neglected to insert the electronic voting card until it fully clicked into place. If the precinct volunteers noticed me frowning at the screen, lingering at the booth a little longer than necessary, they probably just thought, "Here we go again. Another female voter who can't make up her mind." For women of both parties, last Tuesday's ballot was enough to give anyone pause. Democrats were made giddy by their choices, happily asking themselves, "Which way do I want to help make history?" Republican women were also kicking around the candidates, for entirely different reasons— their choices felt more filled with compromise. The GOP offered them a hair-triggered straight-talker hated by his party's base, a folksy preacher without a prayer and a Mormon flip-flopper with the visage of Reagan but none of the charisma.
