Ice Energy Provides Cox Enterprises with Hybrid Cooling Systems in ...

WINDSOR, Colo., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Ice Energy(R), the premier provider of hybrid cooling technologies, today announced that Cox Enterprises has installed nine Ice Bear(R) systems at two of the company's operations: Manheim California (formerly California Auto Dealers Exchange) facility in Anaheim, California and Cox Communications in San Diego, California. The nine Ice Bear systems are fully operational and will comprehensively reduce the facilities' peak load by 85 kW. The systems will reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by 33 tons and nitrogen oxide emissions by 90 lbs, the equivalent of taking approximately 10 cars off the road each year.

"Cooling is the single largest contributor to the blackouts, high electricity bills, increased air pollution and a host of other problems associated with summer's peak electricity demand.

DAVID LAVOIE: Don't take the amenities for granted

HOW easily the lives of those who live in the developed parts of the world can be disrupted. We rely on our amenities and utilities to such an extent that being without them, however briefly, becomes a huge hardship. We have water with which to wash, cook and flush away waste, we have electricity for lights and air-conditioning, we have food on demand, we have shelter. We want for little except, maybe more.

But every once in a while a wake-up call comes knocking.

I live in a pleasant set of condominium buildings. Recently, everyone in my building received a notice saying simply: We would like to inform all residents that due to unforeseen repair work to the suction tank, there will be a disruption of water supply from Wednesday until Friday this week.

Three days without running water! No water for cooking! No showers or baths, no hand-washing, no laundry, no way to wash dishes, no way to flush ever-smellier toilets! Catastrophe!

Yet, how many people in our world live this way each and every day of their lives? I had immediate images of women in Africas Sahel walking kilometres a day while balancing huge pots of precious water drawn from a communal well on their heads.

Thieves steal from Safari Park

The lead was destined for the roof of the fire-ravaged mansion in the grounds, which is currently being rebuilt.

But between Sunday evening and early Monday morning, raiders used cutting equipment to burn the doors off the large metal container where the eight tonnes of lead was stored.

Safari park spokeswoman, Wendy Jackson, said the theft was an inconvenience but did not believe it would hold up the construction work.

She added: “We are progressing very well with the house so it is not going to cause any major delays.

CSU team to show its bulls today

With his thick brimmed black cowboy hat above his brow, Scott Martell proudly follows in his grandfather's boots. Martell describes his grandfather as a really good cowboy and believes the cowboy lifestyle was bred into him.

Though it's not always a leisurely life, it suits him well. Originally from Hudson, Martell has been around horses and cattle his whole life. So when picking a career, working with animals seemed natural.

"It's easier to get along with animals," he said. "They are a lot simpler and I'm a simple guy."

And while that may be the case, the cattle industry is not nearly as simple as one would think. As Martell puts it, people don't always realize the education that is needed to stay competitive within the industry. At one point, Martell considered becoming a veterinarian, but ended up switching paths.

New Wal-Mart Preps For Green Debut

EAST FREEDOM, Pa. -- The new Wal-Mart Supercenter in East Freedom is 30 days away from its grand opening. And while Wal-Mart stores boast money savings for shoppers, this store is boasting its energy savings as well.

One-hundred skylights line the ceiling of the store just off Interstate 99. When the sun comes out, the lights inside actually dim. The store is also equipped with energy efficient air conditioning and freezers. And the new concrete floor doesn't require any chemicals to clean it, just water. The photo center is completely digital, so no chemicals are needed to develop pictures.

"We're also recycling all of the cartons that the merchandise comes in. We're recycling all of the plastic bags as well," said store manager Sean Cassatt.

Cassatt said other new Wal-Marts will be following the same environmentally friendly trends.

The Freedmen's Remedy

Because the issue of water-boarding will not be subject to a protracted legal battle. To the extent the upcoming military commissions address the issue at all, it will happen—as it is happening now—in a black box, cloaked in assertions of secrecy. For one thing, the Military Commissions Act passed by Congress permits the government to assert national security privilege where sources and methods of obtaining information are concerned. They can keep this evidence from the defense, so long as the military judge finds the sources and methods are classified. In Hamdan, the government has already asserted that this prohibition extends to the interviews of the detainees themselves concerning their interrogations, and as such, the government has already erected a wall of silence around the high-value detainees extending even to their interviews.
