It's here that the latest in bleeding-edge technology, gadgets and software gets its public coming-out party, spread across a mind-blowing 167,000 sq. metres of exhibit space in two massive convention centres. And what a party it is.

Seeing everything that's on display at CES is nigh-on impossible, even over the show's four days. Still, we got to witness some pretty cool stuff before CES wrapped up yesterday, and it's too much to cram into just one gadgets page. So here's Part One of our roundup of some of the niftiest, craziest and otherwise memorable technology straight outta Vegas. Extracurricular activities not included.

MICROSOFT SURFACE

This wasn't the first time Microsoft's upcoming tabletop display technology was shown to the public, but it was definitely the first time we saw just how amazing Surface might be when it starts to arrive this year in hotels, retail stores and the like.

Rooms with exclusive views: Three Sisters project will be closely ...

The resort's chefs use many ingredients that are produced on-site — Blackberry's cheese maker uses milk from the farm's East Friesian dairy sheep, while the resort's eggs come from its flock of free-range chickens.

Beall said the lesson is properties that are committed to quality will distinguish themselves. “And at Blackberry we have stayed committed to nothing but quality, and there's nothing we won't do to offer our guests the best experience possible And we do have the same intentions at Three Sisters," he said.

One local developer who has experience with high-end residential projects is John “Thunder" Thornton. The Chattanooga businessman partnered with former pro golfer Greg Norman on Tennessee National, a waterfront golf community in Loudon, and also developed 1,300 acres in the vicinity of Jackson, Wyoming.

February 2008

I continue to be amazed at the evolvement of Huckleberries Online and the local blog community. HBO Blogfest '08 is another example of something happenin' different here. A wonderful mix of personalities and pseudonyms. It didn't start out that way. But I'm delighted that we've gotten to a place where we can set aside ideologies, religious doctrine, politics, disparate backgrounds, etc., to enjoy one another's company. Blogfest '08 was a special time. I'd like to see HBO and the SR sponsor a Dougfest (Doug Clark & Trailer Park Girls) this summer. It might happen. Who knows? HBO works because there's no agenda or much organization. Sorta like the Grateful Dead. If I don't screw things up at HBO Central, we'll get together for another blogfest about this time next year. Now, for your Wild Card ...
