| Ryan brothers could be candidates for Jets' D.C. job
Too often coaches rely on their network of friends to fill jobs, ignoring more qualified candidates. As reported late last week, OL coach Tony Wise is officially out. From what I hear, he was unhappy with the Jets and was telling people throughout the season that he wanted out. .
Major Weapon Systems Are Another Victim of Iraq
But a more damning set of figures emerge if one examines what has happened within the procurement accounts. In 2001, big ticket procurement items such as Navy shipbuilding and Navy and Air Force aircraft procurement, totaled nearly $35 billion (in 2007 dollars). Those activities accounted for about half of all defense procurement. By 2007, spending in those three categories accounted for only $38 billion, or less than 5 percent of the $60 billion inflation-adjusted increase in procurement spending. Where is the rest of the money going? Procurement for the Army and Marine Corps grew from $12 billion in 2001 to $55 billion in 2007—an increase of 350 percent. The single category of greatest growth was "Army Procurement Other," which includes among other things, trucks, mine protection equipment, and High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles.
1824 'shack' matures
In southern Anne Arundel County, Route 2 meanders toward Solomons Island, winding through miles of farmland and a smattering of houses. In 1967, Georgina and Richard Fries were looking for an alternative to the Baltimore-Washington suburbs after a job transfer brought the family south from New Jersey. "We bought a shack and 2 acres for $29,000," said Richard Fries. .

Key West: The southernmost slump
The weather has been cold and snowy in parts of the North and Midwest,'' she said. ``We're hoping they are getting tired of it by now and will come visit.'' Some already have, like Tina and David Cosworth of Wisconsin, who said they decided just last month to come to Key West because ``it looked warm on the map.'' ''Tourism is our lifeblood,'' Panico said. ``This should make us appreciate our visitors, and be kinder to them.'' .
StudioCanal completes acquisition of Germany's Kinowelt
StudioCanal has announced the completion of its 100% acquisition of German distributor Kinowelt. Speculation on the move had reached fever pitch last week when a Leipzig-based daily reported that the long-rumoured deal was imminent. StudioCanal signed the acquisition contract on Wednesday with Michael and Rainer Kolmel, owners of Kinowelt. In a press release, StudioCanal said the deal "marks another significant step in the growth of StudioCanal's European distribution network." The company acquired UK distributor Optimum Releasing in May 2006. Although the Leipzig paper cited a sale price of $102m (Euros 70m), StudioCanal chairman Olivier Courson told ScreenDaily.com that because the actual fee is based in part on future performance, he could not specify what StudioCanal is paying.
